Lazy Days

Image
July has produced many, many days of doing nothing. In fact I’m quite sure it’s the first time in a long, long time that I haven’t felt overwhelmed by life. Know what? I really like it..... A LOT. Sure we’ve had errands and grocery shopping, there’s been this and that, life has not come to a complete stop but I have to say I’m enjoying summer. Here’s what we have been doing, and I’ll start with me. Working on fall schedules. These lazy days will end. I officially have a child in every department of our church. I decided that I would volunteer the 2nd weekend with early childhood and elementary. Our high/middle school leaders all have children. Last year they started providing child care during their events so on the second Sunday evening I will be there. Whewwww. That was easy. Point there: Don’t call me the second weekend of the month! MOPS is getting ready to start up. I have a new position this year and I’m motivated and curious to see how God will work here. I am partnering with

I just finished a book by Neta Jackson called The Yada Yada Prayer Group. I LOVED IT! This book came recommended to me by a friend at a bible study just this last spring and I finally got around to reading it. It reminded me so much of a  close group of friends that I have. The way we got together is just beyond what I could write here. God was so detailed in bringing us together, yet we’ve never all been together. Imagine that! In fact as I write this I’m thinking about one of the main things that connected us - a little boy who weighed just over 2lbs at birth, Ty came into this world at 25 weeks and I started praying for Ty and his family. His mom blogged. I was always amazed at the lessons I would take away after reading her writing. Some days it was just simply a progress report on how Ty was doing but nonetheless I would always say a Thank you when I was done, I could log off of the computer and look at my children and think to myself I better Thank God for my blessings b

Hot

Now I realize it's not nearly as hot as it was last week. And I also know that my wonderful girlfriends reading this may be encountering much higher temps than us wimpy Minnesota girls but I'm telling ya...... My friend Carrie  and I were at the park with the kids. The sun was out in full force and I think it was only like 85 or so. We covered all the little kiddos with sunscreen and off we went. Their hot little bodies combined with sunscreen served as little glue sticks for the sand. What a mess . When we got back to my house I decided that they needed a little rinse with the hose. Just their feet and hands. I really was going to be careful. Something about the relieved look in their faces told me that that they were going to need to really GET WET! The next thing I know I'm asking Carrie if she had extra clothes for Kylie but it was much to late. Damage was done and the giggling had started. The kids thought it was great that not only were they wet but they all had

Baseball

Baseball season is officially over for Jordan. Although his team plays one more game for third place. Jordan will miss that game due to camp next week. All and all I think he had a good season. He really worked hard on his pitching. He averaged pitching 2 innings per game. At home Jordan and the neighbor boy Scott would go over to the field and practice as much as possible, so much so that his shoulder was really sore one night at a game and he couldn't pitch. After that he found a good balance. Here are some pictures from his last game. This was their first playoff game and had they won they would have played for 1st because of a buy. They lost by two but in the end knew they did their best.

Doctor

After a very long week of this and that with Sam I decided to call and make an appointment for a 4yr well child check. There was not one big thing going on but a lot of little things that added up and had Rick and I concerned. So to make a long story short and to try to keep my son's dignity I'll simply say that the first order of business is going to be to get Sam eating more fiber and helping things get regular. Poor boy. I did find this article and it explained well what seems to be the main issue along with some good suggestion on fiber intake. The only acute problem she was worried about was a Urinary Tract Infection, this is common in children that have #2 issues but she mainly wanted to rule it out. Another reason your child may be refusing to use the potty for BMs is that he's constipated. If so, the pain he feels when he tries to poop may heighten any discomfort he has about using the potty in the first place. This creates a vicious cycle: He withholds poop, whi

Yeah But Was it Good?

We were reading a book the other night about creation and about when the serpent tempted Eve. When Eve ate the fruit Eric commented about that being naughty. Sam asked if it was juicy! Oh-no~ we could be in for it!!!!

Gimmie A Break!

I was walking in Wal-Mart today ( see above post ) and noticed that the school supply lists are all out and the isles are full. Already? Is summer even half over? Wow. So today in the mail I got a Target ad. I was looking through it and I can't believe some of the "back to school" items available for children. Here is the first thing that made my me chuckle. Spider-Man Back Pack with built in speakers -Your kidding right? Do parents really buy these..... Firefly Cell Phone and even the hands free wire for them? (You know because they are to busy to hold the phone?!) This next item claims to "help kids use just the right amount" ... tell my plunger that...   Cottonelle Kids- toilet paper-for back to school? Maybe if I had a little girl she could make her own breakfast with this . And who needs a puppy just buy this soft cuddly Robopet , My mom would turn her home into a rescue for abandon robotic doggies! (My mom LOVES dogs) I'm sure there are many more t

Battle Field

Sammy, Sammy, Sammy...... In Wal-Mart (about 2 minutes into the store) Sam grabbed a CARS PEDS dispenser and said "look at this mommy, if I buy this I won't buy anything else" I thought well no kidding but your not getting that either.... I told him to put it back and battle #1 started. Well that battle got him put into the cart kicking and screaming and when he finally quit he said he wanted to walk. I agreed but told him if he grabbed stuff off the shelves or ran off I was putting him back in the cart. Well not more than 1 minute later he started battle #2, he was being really rude with the cart and trying to push it into things on the ends of the isle. Enough was enough and I put him back into the cart. He screamed and screamed, and screamed, and screamed, and screamed, and screamed, and screamed. There were people that were peaking their head around corners (I'm sure to make sure the child wasn't being beat) and OH MY STARS the looks I was getting! Eit

Woman Lake 2006

Image
Woman Lake Lodge is a resort that we've stayed at for many years. It started out as a invite from a friend of my mothers in 1983. My brother was 1 and I was 11. Needless to say the friend is more like family and this has become a cherished tradition throughout the years. During some of my later teen years and the years I lived in California I didn't go but in 1994 I traveled up with Jordan than 1 and Kayla than 3 and have made many memories there with my family, this year was no exception. I must say every year I get just a little better at getting my family packed up and ready for the trip. In fact my only big hang up is the traffic on the way up north. I seem to create a small crater in the passenger side of the vehicle from pushing on my imaginary brake! We started off from our driveway at 9:23am and at 10:01am Sam asked for the first time "Are we there yet". Is that one of the phrases that children are born knowing how to ask? Rick and I chuckled and I grabbed
