Eye Drops Pt 2

Image
Saturday was the day. Sam has been wearing his glasses a little over 2 weeks now. All was good and he was starting to fight wearing them. He really has no use for them with his good eye. That eye does all the work and after the newness wore off his glasses started coming off. So that was the sign I was waiting for. On Saturday morning I had to hold my baby boy down to the ground and put that drop in in his good eye. I really have to stay focused on the long term outlook because I hate doing it. The whole day he was a bit emotional. I'm sure it was a bit of a reaction. There was one point where he and Rick were working on a puzzle and he started crying and said he couldn't see it. Rick helped him adjust the way he was viewing it. Helping him to move it a little further from his face and than he said "now I can see it" . Break mama's heart. He hates the drops but gets 2 Hersey Kisses when we're done. A boy after my own heart. Chocolate cures everything! On Sund

Footloose

Image
Remember the movie Footloose? Am I that old? I refuse to believe that! Yesterday afternoon I decided to plant myself on the couch for a few minutes at rest time. I rarely sit down to watch TV in the afternoon. I was flipping around the channels and found the movie Footloose with Kevin Bacon. ( side note: he really was cute! ) Anyway it was at the beginning and I started watching. Jordan had just come home and I was all excited. I said Jordan have you seen this? He looked at me like I was possibly an alien... . He hit the "info" button on the remote and it gives a brief description of the movie and the year it was made. Any guesses on that year? I'll get to that later. So he sat down and watched it for a few minutes and before I know it he's working on our puzzle and getting rather bored. I'm in awe! I mean Ariel had just put a tape in the boombox and everyone was dancing. Her Dad ( the preacher ) was about to bust them all and Jordan could have cared less

99-100

Image
99......100 Do you want to hear me count to 100? That is Eric's great performance of the week. Not only can he count to 100 but he will be more than happy to demonstrate his talents to any willing ears! We were walking down the hall of the preschool and ran into a friend. Eric very quickly asked his questions and I stood behind him shaking my head, making hand singles to say no. She didn't see me and any good soul wanting to encourage a child she said yes. Most people that have said yes don't realize that means your in it for the long haul!   Bless his heart, he's so proud of himself. And Mommy is very proud too, I'm challenged enough getting anywhere on time!                                                                             You guessed it there are 100 cars in this picture. I don't believe this is the one that is sorted by color but that is always an option as simply counting to 100 isn't entertaining enough!   Eric is also very into clocks,

Went to a Fight

Image
and a hockey game broke out! Minnesota has a Jr. League that happens to play their home games about 2 miles from our house. For whatever reason we've never made it to a home game. That's a little strange because Hockey has been such a big thing in our lives for about the last 5 years. Anyway there was A LOT of fights, drop gloves and nasty fights. Every time we'd try to distract Eric and Sam, meanwhile the whole rink is cheering. I don't remember hardly a minute of time where there wasn't some in the penalty box. So the fun came with watching the boys. Eric didn't want to go. He sat at the dinner table with a big pouty lip, "I want to stay home-I don't want to go" I said Eric we'll have fun. "No we won't" Well we packed up  (10 below I might add) Went to the rink only to discover that after a few minutes Eric decided that this might be fun. Then it happened. "Mom there's a #4, there's a #4." #4 is Eric'

Let It Snow

Image
Of all the days.... Today my friend her 2 kids, my 2 daycare kids,  along with Eric, Sam and of course me were all going to load up and go to Underwater World at the Mall of America. It hasn't really snowed here any significant amount for a couple of months and low and behold there's a Winter Weather Warning until tomorrow. Periods of 1-3 inches an hour starting at noon today. The good news is that will make for fun sledding later. In other news Sam says his mouth hurts, hopefully that won't turn into anything. Or at least I hope he feels go enough to go out. Jordan, Jordan, Jordan.....sigh... EVERY morning I hear an alarm.   EVERY morning I hear the alarm get hit.   EVERY morning I stop at his doorway, "Jordan you really need to get up, I'm flipping on your light". EVERY morning I hear "Oh shoot look what time it is" ....DUH! (normal time to get up is supposed to be 6:30 but turns into 6:50, bus arrives at 7:10) This morning at 6am,  Y

Frozen Roses and Cheap Candy

Happy Valentines Day!! This morning I was so proud I had little heart bags on the kitchen table for each of the kids to find upon waking. All containing cards and candy. Sam are Eric are still sleeping but Kayla and Jordan found their treasures. Jordan stuffed his pocket with candy with a "COOL" and out the door he went, Kayla looked said "oh" and out the door she went. Not surprising :) I had Rick's card and a small box of cheap candy ready so he'd see it when he planted himself to have a cup of coffee. I feel a little ahead of the game this year as I normally am one of those that is hoping to get to the store before the displays come down on the 14th. Valentines and Halloween are in my opion a waste of $$ but I guess this year I had second thoughts about Valentines. Nothing wrong with letting my family know they are dear to my heart. So I came home from bringing Jordan to school and at my desk, in one of our very own water glasses were a dozen frozen yell

Happy Birthday Rick!

Happy Birthday Rick!! Have I told you today that I love you! Dinner Saturday was so nice, best of all quiet!! :) I'm so grateful for you in my life and I hope you have the best day ever! Love~ ME PS: No meatloaf for dinner!

Teenagers and Phones

Kayla is now officially a member of the mobile world. When she was 13 we purchased a pre-paid cell phone for her to use for emergencies and for checking in with us. It worked out well as she couldn't overuse her minutes or she'd just simply run out of them. This has worked well for the last year and a half, however the last few months she has been pouring her babysitting money into minutes left and right for that thing. It's about $50 for 400 minutes. She really doesn't talk that often on it but she sends those text messages all the time. This is how the kids talk now a days. I really can't say much as I talk to most of my friends via email but it seems so weird. I've tried sending those text messages and it seems like forever to get a couple of words on there, and then if your phone rings you lose everything! So after some thought Rick and I decided to add her on to our plan, it's only $25/month and she's willing to pay half of and she gets 1000 text me

Let the Games Begin

I'm so excited about the Olympic Games beginning today. My favorites are the skating competition but really I've grown to just enjoy watching the competitors and really appreciate how hard they work. I really hope this is not a sign of my age! LOL We have DVR (digital video recording) and I've got it set to record the games that are aired today. So forgive me if I seem distant I have every intention of becoming a TV junkie the next couple of weeks. I will post some of my picks after seeing them but of course there are the favorites from past, Michelle Kwan and Sasha Koehn, that spin Sasha does always makes me wince! Then there are the events that always bring out the mama in me... the up in the air, flips that some of those skiers do. Yikes. I'm always so afraid we'll witness some horrible accident so this year I think I'll just pray for their safely and try not to close my eyes to much!

Glasses

Just some background... When Sam was about 6 months old we had him seen by a Pediatric Ophthalmologist for a blocked tear duck on his right side. While examining him the Doctor found his vision was more far-sighted in his right eye than his left. Now all babies are far-sighted to some degree, this is often even on both sides and will resolve itself in the first year to year and a half of life. At one year Sam had surgery to probe his tear duct and again his eye exam showed improvement in his left eye but not his right. At 18 months he got his first pair of glasses. We were also supposed to patch his good eye to force his weaker eye to work harder. Well after many, many attempts this has not happened. So here we are now. As of his last appointment ( Thursday the 2ND ) his sight in his right eye has worsened even more. His new glasses came in on Wednesday and so the battle begins ( again )! First battle, trying to convince Sam he should wear his glasses. I let him pick out new frames,
