Doctor

After a very long week of this and that with Sam I decided to call and make an appointment for a 4yr well child check. There was not one big thing going on but a lot of little things that added up and had Rick and I concerned.

So to make a long story short and to try to keep my son's dignity I'll simply say that the first order of business is going to be to get Sam eating more fiber and helping things get regular. Poor boy. I did find this article and it explained well what seems to be the main issue along with some good suggestion on fiber intake. The only acute problem she was worried about was a Urinary Tract Infection, this is common in children that have #2 issues but she mainly wanted to rule it out.

Another reason your child may be refusing to use the potty for BMs is that he's constipated. If so, the pain he feels when he tries to poop may heighten any discomfort he has about using the potty in the first place. This creates a vicious cycle: He withholds poop, which exacerbates the constipation, and when he finally goes it's painful, so he fears using the potty.
Fiber-rich foods such as whole-grain breads, broccoli, and cereal can help keep your child regular. A good rule of thumb is that your child should eat enough grams of fiber to equal his age plus five (for example, a 4-year-old needs 9 grams of fiber each day). It's also best if the fiber is eaten throughout the day, rather than all at once. Make sure your child is getting enough fluids, too. Water, prune juice, and other diluted fruit juices are good choices. And be careful not to give him too many dairy products, which can make constipation worse. If nothing else works, consult your child's pediatrician about using laxatives.

His glasses are still not back from being repaired. I called today and they have a shipment coming in tomorrow and if there not in there we have to wait until Tuesday for the next shipment. Pray that they are in tomorrow!

Since it was a well child check they weighed and measured him. Sam is 37lbs and 40 1/2 inches. That's the 75% for weight and 50% for height. He passed everything else and no shots until he's five. She did mention that  at 5 Sam would need 2 shots and he quickly told her Eric was 5 but he's only 4...Confused smile, he'll give his brother up in a minute to protect himself!
