Grow Brielle Grow!

Journal entry by Missy Eagen
Who knew 1/2 pound could make such a difference?! Brielle is 2lbs 11oz now and looks bigger to us! Shawn, Ann and I have all been able to hold her now. Rick is not feeling well and will hopefully get up there soon to peek in on her soon. Jordan and Beca balance trips to the hospital and busy boy Bennett! So much to be thankful for!

NEC- so the dreaded suspected NEC infection thankfully ended up being a whole bunch of stool in her bowels- this might be TMI but the nurse practitioner described the stool they are helping her pass as large gummy worm like and a lot of it- poor girl no wonder she was having trouble. So they confirm her bowels are empty and then they reintroduce feeds and start from scratch- small feeds that are watched closely.

So how is she gaining weight?

Fair question I asked also- the answer is her PICC line is being pumped full of nutrients and calories. The best way for her to grow is to have food in her tummy but until then they use the PICC line.

On Sunday Brielle was moved to a less critical part of the NICU - she continues to impress us with her tiny "can do" will and this is a great step forward, in fact we learned last night that as she continues to be stable she could earn herself a private room over at Methodist in the special care nursery. Cardiologists would have to approve the move and she couldn't use a c-pap at all there but my prayer for her is that she can move there in the next 3-4 weeks. She could just focus on eating and growing there.

Speaking of the c-pap we mentioned earlier she didn't have one. She just had an adjustment in the type being used. She is breathing room air and the settings on the c-pap is on the lowest setting. Basically it's there to keep her energy for growing and not working so hard on breathing. We are so thankful for the healing that has taken place in her tiny lungs, it is amazing to see her chest moving up and down breathing in life. Big change from the oscillator that literally shook air into her 4 weeks ago.

Thank you for your continued love and prayers!
